1.

Plan your children’s clothing and props carefully and be sure they look good together. For example, pastel clothing will look best with pastel props. Bright colored clothing and props also go together well.

2.

You may want to bring your children dressed in comfortable clothing that you are not planning to them photographed in and plan to change them here.

3.

If your child is a baby we suggest putting on a bib immediately after dressing him/her to save the clothing from drooling and spitup. Bring some of your baby’s blankets, quilts or comforters for possible use in the photograph too.

4.

If dirty shoes and soles will bother you in the photographs, make sure you clean them thoroughly as they may show in some of the photographs.

5.

We often find that children respond best for their portraits without their parents in sight. It is very important that he responds to us and is looking in the proper direction for the lighting and camera setup. If we feel the session will go better with you present, we must ask that you do not try and get your child’s attention or give him too many directions while we are photographing.

6.

We will reserve plenty of time for a leisurely portrait sitting of your child. We want him/her to have time to get used to us and the camera room. We don’t expect your child to behave perfectly all the time.

7.

Please be sure to tell us anything you can about your ideas and suggestions for a better portrait! Let us know if full length or close up is especially important. Tell us if you prefer a more serious look or smile.

8.

When you discuss your upcoming photography session with your child, please do not instruct him/her to “smile.” We have special ways to get very natural expressions. Preparing your child to smile will only hinder our process. Simply let him/her know how much fun you’re going to have and how excited you are, but be careful not to make him/her feel pressured to perform. Then leave the rest to us!

9.

All your help will result in a successful portrait session and photographs you will treasure!
